Live updates for 2023 tech layoffs: Alphabet, the parent company of Google, will eliminate 12,000 jobs globally.

With the layoffs, Google joins a number of other big titans that have substantially reduced operations in the face of a failing global economy and surging prices.

Twitter, Amazon, and Meta Platforms have all reduced staff.

One of the longest-standing digital companies, Google has avoided significant worker cuts. However, the business is coping with a decline in digital advertising and its cloud computing.

Amazon: The online retailer announced it would have to eliminate 18,000 jobs. Just a small portion of the company's 1.5 million-person global workforce.

Microsoft: The software company announced it would eliminate close to 5% of its staff, or around 10,000 positions.

Coinbase: In less than a year, the bitcoin trading platform has laid off 950 employees, or around 20% of its workforce.
