On his 97th birthday, Jadhav, who at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics gave India her first individual Olympic medal following Independence.
Jadhav, also known as "Pocket Dynamo," was born on January 15, 1926, in the Goleshwar town of Maharashtra. He began training with his father there.
Jadhav's first encounter with the London Olympics occurred in 1948 after he had achieved victory in State and National level competitions.
